Grab a pen and paper. Write...

 

In one month I will...

In three months I will...

In one year I will...

 

Now fill in the blanks with a goal for each. Then write down one or two ways you will reach each of those goals. These are called action steps and they help us get to where we want to be.

For most people, reaching goals is a challenge. Goals are not meant to be overly easy to achieve, or we would have accomplished them already. When you have a chronic illness it's easy to get caught up in that, and push almost everything else to the side. Having a chronic illness can feel like a full time job, taking over your mind for the vast majority of the day. Who has time for goals when you're chasing numbers, counting carbs, or doing everything in your power to prevent inflammation?

This mindset is exactly why goal setting is essential.

We cannot get caught up in our illnesses 24/7. Most of us have done it at one point or another, or are currently "living" like this, but the habit must be broken.

So, what would you want in life if you didn't have a chronic illness? To write a book? Be able to run a certain distance? Travel somewhere amazing?

DO IT. Make your dreams happen. Don't let your diagnosis hold you back. Realistically, your goals might need to be modified, but that's ok!
